Haute Couture Coffee-table book.
Here is a selection of visuals from a coffee-table book created for
the Valentino Haute Couture Fall 2013 collection, created by Maria Grazia Chiuri and Pier Paulo Piccioli.
The collection centred around the beauty and intrigue of the "Cabinet of Curiocities", a selection of portraits created throughout the Enlightenment period and the collection and perception of precious objects.
Each one of the fifty-six looks was hand illustrated and the entire book was directed and laid out personally, with hand make prints from the illustrations, closeups and modern takes on iconic portraits, which were illustrated over to include of of the Valentino accessories.
Scroll along to see a few of the looks which were illustrated, as well as the close up details from the sketches. The first section is part of the layout of the book, as well as showing the finished product, printed and bound in iconic Valentino red.
The book included personal notation of each look and a synopsis of the show from my own perspective.
I found the extreme beauty in the details of this collection absolutely hypnotic. The designers have taken Valentino to new levels of sophistication and injected a spirit of youth which was not always present whist Mr Valentino Garavani was creative director.
